Like many, the pandemic forced Epidemic Sound to quickly learn how to work remotely. In an interview, Mikael Lenart details how Stagecast helps Epidemic Sound to keep employees engaged in a remote work culture.

How has your need for digital ways of employee engagement changed within the last few years?

In recent years we’ve seen a shift from office-focused workplaces to remote. Employees can work from home or travel and see the world and at the same time perform all the tasks and be as productive as they would be at their desk at the office.

As a People Engagement Producer, that shift pushes us to rethink employee engagement. How can we engage employees in a meaningful and engaging way in a remote workplace? Many of the employees joined during the pandemic. That means they were unable to visit the office and quite often meet their colleagues in person online for the first time. That produces a problem of onboarding new employees remotely so they will feel like a part of the team. Another challenge is for the new employees to embrace the company culture which is crucial for well-being, productivity and communication.

After two years of Zoom call and online meetings we have learned: A two-dimensional live stream is not enough. People want more engagement, more interactions. They need to be active participants in what is happening at online events & meetings.

"The pandemic pushes us to rethink employee engagement. How can we engage employees in a meaningful and engaging way?"

What was your most recent production?

Most recently, we’ve been planning a company-wide in-person event to celebrate the end of the year. Two days before the event, the team faced a big challenge. Swedish health organisations came out with new recommendations regarding gatherings at the workplace. That was due to the increasing number of detected Covid-19 cases. With less than 48 hrs the whole PX team at Epidemic Sound turned a 400+ in-person event into a digital online experience.

The online event turned out to be a great success among the employees and Stagecast played a huge role in that success: Employees loved the Stagecast Photo Collage and Live Polls. Such interactive elements make attendees feel they have an active part of the event, not just a passive spectator role.

How are you using Stagecast?

We appreciate the ease of use of Stagecast. A simple integration - not only on the producers side (QR code) but also on the audience side. No need to download any app, fill out any sign up form or create an account. That ease of use possibly results in such a high participation and great engagement from our employees. In our End of year event, data shows that every employee watching the live stream participated in every Stagecast activation that we’ve prepared during the broadcast (some of them participated even multiple times).

We are looking into how Stagecast can help us turn regular meetings into more interactive happenings on a daily basis.
